While you can phone us to make an appointment, doing it online is quick and helps free phone lines for those patients who cannot use the web.

At Rosewood Practice we use an online portal called “Patient Access” to let you book appointments.

When to phone

  • If you have an urgent medical problem, you can phone the practice our Duty doctor service will see you (see below)
  • If you would like to book one of our evening slots on Monday, Tuesday or Wednesday from 6:30pm-8:30pm you will need to phone (see below).
  • If you feel you need a longer (extended) appointment than the standard slots offered by Patient Access please phone.

Using Patient access for appointments

If you just want to use Patient Acess to book an appointment and this is your first time using it You will need to complete a simple registration form before booking

Using Patient Access for more

You can so use Patient Access for more, including:

  • Managing your medication and repeat prescriptions
  • Seeing you test results
  • Your allergies
  • Your immunisation record

Because this information is private and medically sensitive, you will need to fill in a longer registration form from us first.

The duty doctor service – for when you have an URGENT medical problem

Available 8am – 6.30pm MONDAY – FRIDAY (excluding bank holidays)

  1. Phone the surgery and explain to reception that you have an urgent problem
  2. Reception will ask the nature of your problem and can then put you on the Duty Doctor list
  3. The Duty Doctor will ring you back within 2 hours
  4. The Duty Doctor will decide with you what you need, which could be:
    • Advice over the phone
    • An appointment at the surgery
    • A home visit if you are really not well
    • A referral to another service

The office is open 8am-6:30pm during weekdays and closed at the weekend. Our phone lines tend to be busiest first thing in the morning from 8am.

Rosewood Practice is now an ‘Extended Access Hub’ and you can book evening slots from 6.30pm to 8.30pm on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday to see a Doctor, Nurse or HCA. These slots need to be booked by phone.

Home Visits 

Patients too ill to attend the surgery – please ring the surgery to request a home visit by the doctor. 

If you need an interpreter

If English is not your first language and you feel you may need help talking with us, let us know and we will arrange for an interpretator.

GP Extended hours

Primary Care GP Extended Access Centres

There are now extra GP appointments in the evenings and at weekends available to Hackney Downs Primary Care Network (PCN) patients with a GP, Nurse, pharmacist or Health Care Assistant either same day or in advance are available at any one of 3 primary care GP practices, making it much easier to get the care you need at a location that is convenient for you.

Who can access the service? 

Patients registered with the Rosewood practice, Nightingale Practice, Healy practice, Clapton practice, Riverside practice, Elm practice and the Gadhvi practice can book an appointment at the service through their own GP practice. These appointments are not suitable for all types of problems. (NB This is not a walk-in service)

What are the opening times?

The opening hours are 07:00 – 8am & 18:30 – 20:00 weekdays and 09:00 – 17:00 on Saturday

Weekday Mornings 07:00 – 08:00 at the Nightingale Practice, 10 Kenninghall Road E5 8BY

Monday, Tuesday & Friday 18:30 – 20:00 at the Rosewood Practice, 1A Fountayne Road N16 7EA

Wednesday & Thursday 18:30 – 20:00 at the Healy Medical Centre 200 Upper Clapton Road E5 9DH

How do I book an appointment?

 By contacting your own GP practice.

What can I expect at a consultation with a GP?

One of the added benefits of the Primary Care Network extended access service is that the GP will have access to view your medical record during your visit. Having access to view your medical record means that the clinician will have a greater understanding of your medical history and health needs and can then choose the treatment that is right for you. 

The clinician will ask you for your consent before accessing your medical record. Using this service will not affect your registration at your usual GP practice.

You will be able to book routine appointments 2 weeks in advance.

Who will have access to my medical record?

Only authorised staff within the service will have access to view your medical record. Your medical information will be treated with the strictest of confidentiality. All City and Hackney GP practices have agreed to sign up to a data sharing agreement which sets out what information will be shared, how and when.

What if I don’t want my medical records to be shared?

If you don’t want your medical records to be viewed then you will need to tell the receptionist or GP at your own practice when they are booking the appointment. They will then offer you an appointment at your own GP practice.

Cancelling your appointment:

For weekday appointments on: Monday – Friday evening appointments please call your own GP practice as soon as you know that you cannot attend the appointment.

For Weekday mornings Tuesday – Friday please call your own practice before 6:30pm on the day before your appointment at the very latest

For Saturday and Monday morning appointments please call your practice before 6:30pm on a Friday evening at the very latest

Tests and Referrals

The GP’s in these centres will send any requests for referrals back to your own GP practice to action. Bloods and other test results will be sent to your own GP practice to action.
